Fasciculation refers to an involuntary muscle twitch, more commonly known as spasm. This occurs in the muscle fibres and can affect a small part or all of a particular muscle, leading to the inability to relax and 'switch off'. Fasciculations can occur due to muscle fatigue, pain, damage or over use and it is important when treating horses and dogs that the cause of the fasciculation is addressed as well.
