This is a rustgill mushroom (Gymnopilus penetrans) commonly found with a yellow-brown or tawny coloration. However, apply some potassium hydroxide solution to its gills and shine some UV and something curious occurs as it turns bright green. While we’re not entirely sure why this happens, it could be related to the fact that this mushroom has been used to dye clothes green and yellow.
