The sound of September It's that time of the year when elk begin their migrations and begin looking for mates during the rut (breeding season). During the rut, elk bulls may fight, bugle and protect their harems (cows & calves). This time of the year also means elk bulls can become agitated if any other animal, object or person appears to pose a challenge.
