Eddie Palmieri, the groundbreaking Latin jazz pianist, composer, and bandleader, has passed away at age 88 on August 6, 2025. A pioneer who fused Afro‑Caribbean rhythms with jazz and salsa, Palmieri made history in 1975 as the first Latino ever to win a Grammy with The Sun of Latin Music, and went on to earn eight in total across nearly 40 albums.
