Catalina Island is currently embroiled in a heated debate about their Mule Deer. A species of deer native to the mainland of California, but non-native and technically invasive to the Channel Islands. The Catalina Island Conservancy wants to eradicate the deer herd - there are suggestions the herd is as large as 2000 deer, but also other reports that it's as low as 800. Regardless, the conservancy states that biodiversity of the island is being diminished and irreparable harm is being done to th
