I truly love my career as an ASL interpreter. However, it’s critical to acknowledge that the role of an interpreter can hold serious consequences as we are the spoken voice for the Deaf person present and the Signed representative for the hearing person. That means, we have access to some of the most intimate parts of Deaf people’s lives and can alter people’s lives with our word and ASL choices during interpreting.
