Did you know that Brisbane used to have a tram network, which served the city between 1885 and 1969? Thanks to this amateur super-8 footage, we can drift back to the days when sky-blue trams full of happy passengers cruised around town. 50 years ago tomorrow, 13th April 1969, Trams ceased to be a part of the Brisbane landscape. Thankfully, we have photographs and film to remember the Brisbane Tramways. Please enjoy this fantastic footage of Brisbane taken in the 1960's by Eric Marshall Motion Pictures. On the 28th September 1962 at around 7:30pm, a fire broke out underneath the Paddington tram depot. As fire took hold of the largely timber structure, the blaze could be seen for miles around. There was little time to rescue any trams, and the fire was difficult to control. The ruins smouldered for several days afterwards, and when the damage was finally assessed, apart from the total loss of the depot, 65 trams were destroyed.
