Yesterday was a busy morning! We not only excavated the first nest on Klein Bonaire, we also rescued an adult female turtle that had fallen off a cliff at Playa Chikitu after laying a nest and had gotten stuck between rocks. With the help of our staff Funchi, Beachkeeper Sophie, STINAPA Bonaire Rangers and Adventure Makers Bonaire, we were able to return this mama turtle to safety. What a morning! We received a report about a small green turtle that was stuck in a rusty pole in the Harbour Village Marina. The turtle must have swam into the pole when the tide was high, but could not get out of the pole anymore as the water level changed. Luckily, the marechaussee spotted the turtle in trouble and alerted both STINAPA and STCB. With the help of Raul from the Marina, we got the turtle and - after making sure it was healthy - released it at Andrea. Happy ending! | Sea Turtle C

Yesterday morning, our team excavated the first nest on Playa Chikitu of the 2025 nesting season and it was… awesome! We counted 116 empty egg shells, meaning that 116 baby green turtles emerged from the nest. In addition, we only found three eggs that had not developed and upon closer inspection, we noticed that these eggs were not fertilised. This morning, we successfully released the three juvenile green turtles that spent the last couple of days in our rehab tank. Hopefully, they won't be back! Unfortunately, the juvenile hawksbill did not make it. It was found emaciated at Oil Slick on Wednesday and spent two nights in a special rehab pool, but it was too weak to recover.
