This is a Roman cavalry sword that was found at Vindolanda Roman Fort in Northumberland, England. It was found by Rupert Bainbridge in a cavalry barrack room of one of the earlier versions of Vindolanda deep below the present-day fort's ruins back in July 2017. It had been discarded in its wooden scabbard, the remains of which still cling to the blade after spending approximately 1,900 years in the ground. It is on display in the fort's museum. | International Man of History
