Most streams, including Penns and the J, have significant ice and fishing has been slow. If you get out, focus on deeper slow water with nymphs down low, and try streamers in low light. The rain has come and gone, and everything is dropping and clearing. This weekend should bring good levels and good color across the region. Don’t expect the higher water to last too long, as levels will likely drop and clear by Monday or Tuesday. @barflyfish with this week’s 1/16/26 Central PA Fishing Report Out on Upper Spring Creek today. Water is low and clear across most area streams. The J has a little more water but still clear. Keep your leaders light and your nymphs small. Eggs, zebra midges, and small France flies are fishing well. Streamer bites are hit or miss, look for cloudier days or low light to move more fish. 11/12/25 Cumberland Valley Fishing Report The Cumberland Valley streams are low and clear with lots of leaf debris in the water. We are seeing many fish paired up and spawning. Please refrain from targeting spawning fish. Fishing streamers and eggs can be productive on fish that are not spawning. If streamer fishing is throwing you for a loop, it’s important to try varying your retrieve speed in order to see what will trigger an eat. Sometimes an extra slow retrieve, a jig between strips, or an extra long pause is all it takes to get that trout to bite. Hope that helps! 12-31-24 Yellow Breeches Stream Report: Fishing has been steady over the holidays with many reports of higher fish catches. Small nymphs such as zebra midges, Walt’s worms, and pheasant tails as well as eggs and jigged streamers should produce fish. With the spawn being over in most of the region, fish are bulking up for winter with higher protein food items so don’t be afraid to go big. Cumberland Valley Stream Report 10/29/2025 We have entered spawning season here in the Cumberland Valley. Fish should be pairing up on redds and laying eggs for the next 6 weeks or so.
