At the turn of the 20th century, there were more than 35,000 Welsh-born people living in London, with vibrant communities centered around Welsh culture, language, chapel life, and societies such as the Cymmrodorion (which promoted Welsh learning and charitable works). It was in that cultural soil that the idea for a distinctly Welsh Masonic
