After being selected as one of the Mercury 7 astronauts in 1959, Gus Grissom became the second man in space, piloting the Mercury-Redstone 4 mission on July 21, 1961. Today, we honor astronaut Gus Grissom on what would have been his 99th birthday. The Cosmosphere is proud to house the Mercury space capsule in which he flew in 1961, Liberty Bell 7.
