For most of its history, Kung Fu was a closely guarded secret. Used by Chinese to protect themselves from outsiders, teaching it to non-Chinese was strictly forbidden. But that started changing in the 1900s, with Grandmaster Ark Y. Wong becoming the first sifu to proudly proclaim that he’d teach anyone willing to learn.
