We’ve been sharing a few videos of our grinding workshop recently. This is the start of the day. The stones are left to dry overnight, then in the morning we pour grinding fluid and water into the trough untill the stone is thoroughly wet and spraying water. Apparently up until the 18th century, stones ran dry. running them wet like this cools the steel as it is worked so you can cut faster without losing the temper.
