WASHINGTON — National Guard troops began arriving at the D.C. Armory on Tuesday morning to report for duty to carry out President Donald Trump's directive to address crime in the nation's capital.

President Donald Trump said Monday he’s taking over Washington's police department and activating 800 members of the National Guard in the hopes of reducing crime, even as city officials stressed crime is already falling in the nation’s capital.

President Donald Trump said it's "LIBERATION DAY IN D.C." and said that "Crime, Savagery, Filth, and Scum will DISAPPEAR" in a pair of social media posts Monday, as he is set to hold a press conference on safety and crime in the nation's capital.
