A divided Supreme Court declined to suspend a lower court’s order that directed the Trump administration to resume nearly $2 billion in foreign-aid funding.

Chief Justice John Roberts on Wednesday paused a court-imposed midnight deadline that would have required the Trump administration to release $2 billion in frozen foreign aid, a goal that the government has claimed it is unable to meet.

The Supreme Court has ruled that the Trump administration must follow a previous district court order and pay out nearly $2 billion in funds to nonprofit aid groups.
