The penumbral phase (when the Moon first enters Earth's outer shadow) will begin at 03:57 on Friday. The partial eclipse - when the Moon starts moving into the darker part of Earth's shadow - will begin at 05:09. Lunar eclipses are visible from anywhere on Earth where the Moon is above the horizon at the time.

The moon will appear a striking reddish color in a few weeks when a magnificent total lunar eclipse becomes visible all across the United States.

On the night of March 13-14, 2025, all 50 U.S. states will witness a total lunar eclipse — the best “blood moon” until 2029. Totality will last 65 minutes.
