The two-time major championship winner and LIV Golf member earned a special exemption from the PGA of America to compete in the PGA Championship next week in North Carolina. Johnson’s previous exemption into the second major championship of the year — a five-year pass for his win at the Masters in 2020 — ended last year.

Also getting special invitations were Joaquin Niemann, a three-time winner on LIV this year, and Sergio Garcia.

Masters champion Rory McIlroy and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will be playing together in the opening two rounds of the PGA Championship, joined by defending champion Xander Schauffele in another group of the top three players in the world.

The 2025 PGA Championship kicks off Thursday at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, where Justin Thomas won his first Wanamaker Trophy in 2017. Xander Schauffele is the defending champion, taking home the title last year at Valhalla Golf Club in Kentucky.
