According to local authorities, at least 109 people died on July 4 and 5, most of which were swept up in floodwaters from campgrounds along the Guadalupe River. That’s just shy of the 118 deaths reported as a result of Hurricane Rita in 2005.
Heavy rain poured over parts of central Texas on Independence Day, with the flooding causing at least 119 deaths.
At least 150 people are known to be missing in Kerr County as a result of the flooding in central Texas, according to officials. At least a dozen others are missing in other parts of the state.
