Long-time special teamer Chris Banjo, who played his first games in the NFL as an undrafted free agent signed by the Green Bay Packers, has been named the special teams coordinator of the New York Jets. The team announced the hiring on Friday.

The New York Jets have hired Detroit Lions passing game coordinator Tanner Engstrand as their offensive coordinator and Denver Broncos assistant special teams coach Chris Banjo as their special teams coordinator.

The Denver Broncos lost another assistant to a coordinator job, showcasing how much the NFL covets Sean Payton's staff.

Aaron Glenn continues to fill out his initial coaching staff with the New York Jets and the special team coordinator position has reportedly been filled. According to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis, Chris Banjo

Besides Westhoff, who was Glenn’s special teams coach with the Jets in 2001, Banjo has other connections to Glenn. Payton was Glenn’s head coach in New Orleans in his final season as a player in 2008, and Glenn and Payton were together under Bill Parcells in Dallas in 2006.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and reports from ESPN, Dallas is expected to interview Chris Banjo and Carlos Polk for its special teams coordinator role. Both Banjo and Polk stood out as special teams contributors throughout their NFL playing careers.

Banjo on coaching fast track as he's only been an assistant for two years. But new Jets head coach Aaron Glenn previously coached Banjo the player for three years.

The New York Jets announced they officially hired Chris Banjo as their next special teams coordinator. Banjo, 34, originally signed on with the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent out of SMU back in 2013.
