A day before President Donald Trump delayed tariffs on some Mexican and Canadian goods, a group of restaurant chains that included McDonald’s Corp. and Chick-fil-A told White House officials that the duties would have an immediate negative impact on the industry because it relies on imported meat and produce.

Seesaw tariff announcements have unnerved Wall Street, as investors said flip-flopping moves by the Trump administration to roll back levies on trading partners were causing confusion rather than bringing relief.

President Trump is granting automakers a one-month exemption from tariffs he imposed on Mexico and Canada, the White House said Wednesday. "The president is happy to do it," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said.
