Devin Allen’s photographs are vivid love letters to Baltimore With the release of his first book A Beautiful Ghetto, the artist is dedicated to showing his city’s unsung strength and plurality.

A Beautiful Ghetto is a 124-page collection of black-and-white pictures Allen made following Gray’s death on April 19, 2015.

When the city of Baltimore erupted in April 2015 following the police custody death of Freddie Gray, a young, self-taught photographer was in the thick of it, capturing history with his camera.
