Illegal immigrant Kilmar Abrego Garcia may be deported to Uganda after his release from jail in Tennessee on Friday, ICE told his lawyers.

The Salvadoran man, who was mistakenly sent to the high-security CECOT prison in El Salvador by the Trump administration in March, was returned to the U.S. in June following a lengthy court battle to face the human smuggling charges tied to a 2022 traffic stop in Tennessee.

Five months after his arrest and erroneous deportation to El Salvador made him the center of debate over Trump administration immigration policy, Kilmar Abrego Garcia was released Friday from a Tennessee prison and headed home to Maryland.
